Seven divers and two guides glided across mirror-flat water for a picture-perfect trip to Gordo Banks. A colossal school of jacks stole the first dive, and we wrapped up with an up-close encounter with hammerheads on the outer banks. The thermocline kicked in around 25 metres on Gordo 1, cooling things from a warm 31°C at the surface down to 27°C below.
Diving Conditions
- Water temperature: 80-85°F / 27-30°C (thermocline on Gordo 1 at 25m/82ft: dropping from 31°C at the surface to 27°C below)
- Visibility: 70-80ft / 21-25m
- Current: minimal, flat and mirror-glass seas with no wind

Three divers and one guide made the most of mirror-flat seas and warm, clear water for a smooth run out to Gordo Banks. Even on a quieter day, a school of more than twenty hammerheads glided past for a brief but thrilling moment. The thermocline sat around 20 metres, holding a balmy 31°C with visibility near 15 metres.

- Visibility: 50-60ft / 15-18m (dropping to around 15m/50ft below the thermocline)
- Current: minimal, flat and mirror-glass seas with no wind
