Gordo Banks trip Report December 2025

1st December – Morning Dive

A calm run out to Gordo Outer today with 6 guests, diving the outer bank by request. Glassy seas made entries easy. Underwater we enjoyed a standout encounter with one large silky shark around 80ft, plus a sea lion cruising past before disappearing into the blue.

1st December – Afternoon dive

Afternoon 2:30pm dive at Gordo Outer Banks with 6 guests and 1 guide. Seas stayed flat and comfortable. The hammerhead school sat around 80ft and we had repeated passes, especially as we ascended, with individuals circling back into view. Skipjacks kept the water buzzing the whole time.

2nd December – Morning dive

We headed back to Gordo Outer Banks with 4 guests and 1 guide in medium seas and a bit of wind. Visibility improved, but the current was strong. Hammerheads showed up deeper, around 90ft, giving us a short, fast encounter before we tucked in and worked our way back.

2nd December – Afternoon Dive

Later we returned to Gordo Outer Banks with 4 guests and 1 guide in small, easy seas. We spent longer at depth with a more sustained hammerhead interaction, and the skipjacks stayed with us through most of the dive. The thermocline was reported deeper than 50m, so the action stayed deep.

11th December

Private trip to Gordo Banks with 1 guest and 1 guide and calm, small seas. Shark action was limited, around 2 to 3 hammerheads across both dives, mostly fly-by style and very deep. A solid school of skipjack tuna kept things lively in the water column and made the dives feel far from empty.

17th December – Morning dive

Beautiful sunrise run to Gordo 2 with 6 guests and 2 guides and small, comfortable seas. The dive started with a huge school of jacks, taking us from about 60ft down to 90ft, and hammerheads patrolled the deeper edge. On the second dive, two mobulas cruised past for a few minutes, icing on the cake.

17th December – Afternoon Dive

Gordo Banks delivered plenty of shark action with 6 guests and 2 guides, though the ride out had medium seas and a touch of wind. Underwater the hammerheads came in waves, from quick fly-bys to longer interactions, but much of it happened deep. A single silvertip also made an appearance, adding a nice extra spark.

24th December

Christmas Eve dive day with 4 guests and 1 guide, and gentle seas on the run out. The water felt clear and warm, and we found a big school of hammerheads that stayed curious and close, though still on the deeper side. Rays were around too, giving the dives that classic Gordo vibe.

31st December

Last dive day of 2025 with 9+ guests and 3 guides: cloudy, medium seas and plenty happening on the surface, including lots of fishing boats. Underwater we spent close to 10 minutes with the school of jacks, with hammerheads cruising in and out. We also had a sea lion pop in, followed by two more swimming toward the school.
