9th February

A private trip out to Gordo Banks with just 1 diver and 1 guide, departing from Cabo San Lucas on comfortable seas. Conditions were kind for February and we were rewarded with a beautiful short fly-by encounter with a school of hammerheads and if that wasn’t enough, humpback whales showed up to make it a truly special day underwater.

Diving Conditions

  • Water temperature: 70-75ºF / 21-24ºC (no thermocline)
  • Visibility: 60-70ft / 18-21m
  • Current: comfortable, small waves, no wind

Wildlife Encountered

  • 20+ school of hammerheads (fly-by, short encounter)
  • Humpback whale

17th February

Despite February’s reputation for wind, we had a very pleasant ride out to Gordo Banks with 2 divers and 1 guide. The second dive delivered something quite extraordinary: 3 humpback whales in the blue, 2 of them dancing right in front of us. Add a school of yellowfin jacks and some hammerhead scouts into the mix and you’ve got yourself a dive worth writing home about. A thermocline was encountered at 60ft, dropping temperatures sharply below.

Diving Conditions

  • Water temperature: 70-75ºF / 21-24ºC (above thermocline)
  • Visibility: 50-60ft / 15-18m (above thermocline)
  • Current: comfortable, small waves, no wind
  • Thermocline: Depth 60ft / 18m – Temp: 66ºF / 19ºC – Visibility below: 12ft / 4m

Wildlife Encountered

  • hammerheads sharks
  • Humpback whales (3 individuals, with long interaction on 2nd dive)
  • School of yellowfin jacks

26th February

A sunny, flat-calm morning with 7 guests and 2 guides heading out from Cabo San Lucas on mirror-glass seas. Whales were active at the surface on the way out, adding a lovely bonus to the trip. Underwater, a thermocline sat deep at 32m and while the hammerheads put in an appearance, the encounter was brief a blink-and-you’ll-miss-it 15-second interaction.

Diving Conditions

  • Water temperature: 70-75ºF / 21-24ºC
  • Visibility: 40-50ft / 12-15m
  • Current: very comfortable, flat mirror-glass sea, no wind
  • Thermocline: Depth 32m / 105ft – Temp: 21ºC / 70ºF

Wildlife Encountered

  • 10+ school of hammerheads (short interaction)
  • Humpback whales (surface sightings during navigation)
